I made a paperweight.
Among all the Pinterest quotes, the Instagram motivations, and anecdotes on Facebook, your mom will say something about rocks and sand. And, she’ll tell you, you’re collecting sand. Meanwhile, unless you know what the heck she’s referring to, you won’t have a clue of what it is she just said to you.
She told me this yesterday evening. Clearly, she saw I was clueless. She said to look it up. Well, it’s a metaphor about life. It’s about a jar which we can fill with rocks, pebbles and sand. The choice is really up to me. The rocks represent family and health. Along with the most important projects in your life. The pebbles, well, these are things which are important, but at the end of the day I can live without. The sand is truly the insignificant stuff. You know, like, the stupid stuff. Now, here’s the kicker. If I start by filling my jar with sand, there leaves little space for pebbles and, more importantly, rocks. But, if I choose to start with rocks and then a few pebbles, then the sand, which really ought naught be there in the first place, fills up only the the trickles of space between the really important part.
I don’t have a jar. But, I have honest to goodness really good rocks.
I painted a rock today. And, well, it looks like a paperweight! But, it's my jar. And, i’ll keep painting paperweights until I get it
