The challenge of ‘simplicity’

The algorithms of social medias are a double edge sword; I swear, it feels like a Big Brother syndrome of being watched and followed. How many times have you seen the results of a keyword search on any search engine result with ‘you might be interested in’ results suddenly appear on your feeds of Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest…. the list goes on. Usually, I find it annoying to say the least. But, sometimes, just sometimes, an unexpected pleasant surprise is a result. This surprise arrived last week. I was introduced to “The Simplicity Habit.'“

Meet Julianna Poplin, an American, mother of two, and writer of The Simplicity Habit. Julianna is lovely! And, allow me to tell you why!

Nowadays, we are spammed with adds ranging from banal toiletries to fancy cars, from the latest phone to the newest collections hitting the stores. It is crazy! Especially with the holiday season just about to gear up. I’m no bum-hum-bug. The holiday season for me is my favorite time of year, it beats sweater weather!

Julianna, I believe, once had a lot of stuff too. Just as many of us do. Over time, she realized she had to do something about it. Welcome, ‘The Simplicity Habit’. She became an advocate of the importance of simplicity. She disagrees, just as I do, that we do not need all that stuff.

The challenge of simplicity is it is a habit. As I wrote earlier about consistency in my post of last week, it takes effort to maintain this lifestyle because it is not done in one action but in every action.

If you have a few minutes to spare, I encourage you to read her post about the importance and benefits of simplicity.
